Great Wedding Speeches and Wedding Quotes

Great Wedding Speeches and Wedding Quotes

It's really an honor to be asked to be a best man or maid of honor for a friend or brother or sister so please treat the experience with the respect the occasion deserves. As a parent, it is a very emotional day to see your son or daughter exchange vows with the one they love. You have seen them grow up and through life's ups and downs, and a wedding speech is your chance to reflect, express yourself and good wishes of your son or daughter.

For some, the thought of standing and delivering a wedding speech to a room full of people is difficult. If this sounds like you, don't worry! It's natural to feel a little nervous about making a wedding speech. You don't want to mess up!

Please do not drink too much alcohol if you want your speech to be perfect. Best Man Speeches are often ruined by too much alcohol being consumed by the best man.

The first thing that comes to mind when we realize that we will be making a wedding speech at a wedding reception is how it is to be written and ultimately delivered perfectly so it doesn't do any harm to our reputation or those in the wedding party. It is an added responsibility or obligation that you must perform as the father of the bride, the groom, best man or maid of honor. The best way to do this is to write out the speech well in advance of the big day, practice the speech, and make any changes you feel will improve the words. By writing down the words, you also will not forget any important parts or thank-yous. Can I please repeat that proper preparation is the most important aspect of delivering a good speech.

As the marriage is undoubtedly an important day in any man or woman's life, the last thing you would want to do is insult or create an error in judgment by saying the wrong thing. But it can be a memorable experience for the pair if a speech or toast goes really well. My take on a wedding day is that for many, it is a day of magic, so please don't spoil it by messing up a speech.

Unless you are the father of the bride, do not make the speech too long. Try to put yourself in the audience at the reception as a speech should not become boring. Make sure you have some witty anecdotes, but don't try to become a comedian with a host of jokes. Some funny one-liners will do just fine. Obscenities rarely work at a wedding reception; they are for buck shows and hens nights.

Finally, wish the couple all the best for the future and toast the relevant person or people by raising a glass in the traditional manner.

The Best Possible Wedding Vows

The best wedding vows are those written by the bride and groom, from the heart. You can make your wedding very special and unique by writing your own vows and reading them to each other.
Sometimes couples go too far in trying to make their marriage ceremony unique. When the ritual is totally made up and has no connection with familiar traditions, you risk having invited guests to an event which has not meaning to them.

One of the traditional parts of the nuptials is called the Questions of Intent. This set of questions was created long ago to make sure that both the bride and groom were there freely and that their real intention was to be married. If you have your minister, priest or rabbi include the Questions of Intent, then your vows can be whatever you decide to create. The Questions cover the matters of faithfulness and respect in all conditions and circumstances.

The best personal vows I've ever witnessed are an outpouring of the heart about how the couple met, what they came to love about each other, and what their promises are to each other as they seal their covenant of marriage.

To restate, some of the things you might include in your vows include:
  • When you first noticed each other.
  • What first attracted you to each other.
  • Why you love each other.
  • What each others strengths are, and how you complement each other.
  • What you are promising to each other.

Your promises might include:
  • Respect
  • Faithfulness
  • Trust
  • Honesty
  • Communication
  • Caring for each other
  • Sharing of responsibilities
  • Mutual support
  • Weekly date night
  • Having each other's back
  • Keeping private matters private
  • Forever promises

Your nuptial rituals have a purpose. They formalize your covenant of marriage. A covenant is a binding contract. When a bride and groom covenant to be mates for life, there is a security which both persons can depend upon.

A marriage should be a safe haven. That safety extends to the way each speaks to the other. If you have grown up in a home where Mom and Dad spoke disrespectfully to each other, please get professional help and get those images and memories out of your usable brain power. Learn how to disagree in an agreeable fashion with your mate.

Remember this: You will both be criticized and beat down by life in many ways. It may be in the workplace. It might be on the roads, by other drivers. It might be at church. Or it could be in the neighborhood. It also could be by extended family.

Make your marriage the safe place where neither of you will ever reject the other; never lie to the other; never call each other disrespectul names. If you will do this, your marriage will be the envy of all who know you.

Awesome Marriage Quotes For You

Let me start off by a quote which you need to think seriously about for your marriage to prevail through rough times. Mignon McLaughlin's famous marriage quote is that 'A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person'. This is very much the case or should be the case.

You will find that there are so called dry spells in marriage. This is where you explore your heart and find that you do not feel any love for your partner. To remedy this, you need to fall back in love so that your marriage can stand. Falling in love in this case will be a deliberate move. All you have to do is go back in time and see the potential you have to love each other.

Awesome Marriage Quotes For You

People who have been married for many years successfully will tell you only too well that, you have to keep awakening the love that was once felt. Moving on, there is another marriage quote that really speaks to the heart. It is a quote by Pauline Thomason and it goes like this 'Love is blind and marriage is an eye opener'. This is a very interesting quote which is rather comical. It describes the reality of marriage. Most people who have gotten married did not expect marriage to be so. You can take the quote positively or negatively.

Marriage is a learning institution and, many will learn what it takes to make a marriage as they progress to various levels. Some quotes will evoke laughter and leave you very entertained. For example, a quote by Zsa Zsa Gabor which goes like this 'A man is incomplete until he is married, after that he is finished'. There is no need for further explanation, it is light and you can take it to mean various things.

Writing Wedding Vows - "Love is a Temporary Madness"

When writing your wedding vows I want you to remember that you are in it for the long haul and write your vows based on the dream you have for your life together on a long term basis. This means more than just 'being' in love, sometimes referred to as 'temperorary madness.'

Your vows are about creating a strong, foundational love and enjoying all the benefits that means for a very long time.

Let's look a bit at the idea of being in love and how it relates to your wedding or commitment vows by reading this quote from Captain Corelli's Mandolin. You might even choose to have someone read it at your wedding ceremony.

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.

Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion.

That is just being in love which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

I want you to write your wedding or marriage vows so that they are powerful enough to twine your branches into one trunk without taking away what is individual to both of you.

Some Hydrangea bushes have pink blossoms on one side and blue blossoms on the other. They have one root system but two different and unique colors on the same bush.

Have a big, long term dream for your own lives and for the life of your marriage.

Make it come alive by keeping that dream in front of you by reading the vows or part of them every day; putting together a vision board that you have in front of you where you have to look at it often; and by reading the 10 Commandments of Marriage.

Too many marriages end because they fall from fantasy without a safety net to secure them. They live only in the present and have no real future life.

Your vows are your safety net. They are the promises of what you are going to do to keep the dream of your marriage alive and thriving and intimate. Write them with purpose, passion and have fun doing it!

Wedding Vow Ideas For Her

Your wedding day is the one day you promise to love each other and make your vows to each other. Try to make your vows more personal so that they have real meaning to you both. There is nothing quite so moving as a bride or groom speaking their vows to each other and being overcome by the emotion and importance of the words they are saying. That break in the voice as the groom's throat constricts and he is overwhelmed with love as he offers his bride his love and devotion is one of the most memorable moments of any wedding.

It would be hard not to love the idea of beautifully written verse and deep and meaningful words spoken in mellifluous tones but don't be put off if you are not a fan of classic literature and don't use words you don't fully understand. All, that will happen is that you will feel foolish and the sentiment will be lost. Don't be afraid to include a particularly poignant song lyric or quote from a favourite film, book or poem if it has meaning for you.

"You had me at hello" is just as romantic as anything by Keats or Byron if it means something to you both.
Incidentally, there is nothing wrong with promising to wash the dishes or cook the dinner either! Just make sure you mean it.

Below are two suggested ideas for wedding vows but don't just copy them add your own words, change things around and make them your own.
All that I am and all that I have, I offer to you in love and in happiness
From this our wedding day and every day from now I will love and comfort you when you are sad,
I will hold you close in my arms and laugh with you when you are joyful.
I will prize you above all others and remain faithful to you all the days of our lives.
Although this is short it sums up the whole idea of marriage as a joining together of hearts and minds.

The second idea follows the more traditional line of making a series of promises.
I will love you all the days of our lives together
I will share you with your family and friends.
I will allow you space when you need your own private time
I will celebrate with you when you are joyous.
If we meet with sickness, poverty or sadness,
I will be there to comfort you, care for your physical, emotional,
and spiritual needs,
I will dry your tears, and help ease your breaking heart;
There is no where I would rather be than at your side.

Funny Wedding Quotes for Bride and Groom

Funny Wedding Quotes for Bride and Groom

Almost everyone does it at least once in their life. Despite the dread and speculation of what happens after marriage, you still have some awesome quotes that just might help you make it through your own wedding day.

It's not everyday that you get to point out all the not-so-pleasant things in a marriage, especially when the wife is around. And yes, it can go both ways, with the fairer sex never failing to come up with the most brilliant quips. It remains an unspoken agreement between a man and a wife to keep all fights within the home. While outside, we may have to resort to wordplay and quotes. So join me as I collect the funniest things said about this sacred institution called marriage.

A word of caution: you never know if your spouse will or will not take these in light humor while at parties, so don't use all of them at once. We must, after all, preserve our own sanity while driving back home!

Wedding Speech Quotes

Wedding Speech Quotes

Wedding speech quotes is the hardest thing about getting married. We all know how frustrating it can be to sit down and think for hours about what to say. So with that being said, here is a few tips to help get you started.

- Keep in mind that a wedding speech is meant to be sincere, heartfelt and interesting.

- Be sure to take the time to find more information about the bride, groom and the rest of their families since they will be the center of attention here.

Wedding Speech Quotes

- Also, don't try to make outrageously funny jokes because they can be hurtful to some and just are not needed here. The audience is there for the bride and groom on their magical day and will laugh at just the slightest attempt for humor.

- It's a good idea to keep short and to the point notes that are clear and easy to read just in case you forget some of your wedding speech quotes.

Wedding Speech Quotes
- If possible, try to remember some of the good memories that you have had with the bride and groom or their families. But, be sure that it isn't something that will embarrass them or make them mad.

- Always remember that a wedding speech can say just about anything as long as you're putting happy and cheerful thoughts in the audiences minds. You don't want to say negative things which could anger the audience or the bride and groom.

Wedding Speech Quotes

- Also another good thing to do to prepare for wedding speech quotes is to try standing in front of a mirror and give your speech out loud or ask that some of your friends would listen to you present your speech.
Once you finish giving your speech, ask your friends to give you some feedback.

- One last thing to keep in mind is that the quotes can be about anything as long as it fits in with the rest of your speech. So if you find one of your favorite movie quotes that fits well in your speech then feel free to use them.

- Wedding speech quotes are used to lighten up parts of a wedding and to give good grace to the bride and groom.

I could go on and on about different ways to improve wedding speech quotes, but the big thing to remember is to just have fun with it and make sure not to stress over it because it's a really simple speech. I hope that this article will help you to improve and keep your thoughts in order. I wish anyone who is writing a speech, the best of luck and I hope that this was useful to you.
